In view of the considerable quantitative development of sanitation facilities, a strategy has been designed to involve the private sector in matter of operation and maintenance of certain networks and wastewater treatment plants. Until 1997, these had, indeed, been operated exclusively by ONAS.
By the end of the year 2023, about 5523 km of networks and 22 wastewater treatment plants will be transferred to private developers.
